Brum Music Scene - what's going on?

Alright people of the Birmingham music scene.
What's giong on with all the back stabbing?
I've been reading through a lot of posts on this site and its really pretty sad - no one seems to have anything nice to say at all.
Where I come from (north Wales) bands support eachother on the music scene, not slag each other off.
Its a pretty sorry state of affairs when things get this bad.
As the saying goes 'If you've got nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all'.
Constructive critisisms' one thing but out right slagging off is another.
No need!

yes Karen, it is a very sad state of affairs. Birmingham is like no other city.

There are some very talented bands but alot of them need to get on with the music and stop being so jealous and angry with other bands.

It has been like this for about 5 years now - i hope it all ends soon so everyone can support each other. Alot of people moan that A&R don't venture up to these parts to see bands play live - i am not surprised especially if they read forums such as this.

I assume you are karen from Jinja?? Hope things are going well for them.

Rumours have it there are 2 more bands ready to break out of Birmingham soon to follow in the same sucess Editors are currently getting.

Yes, i was waiting for someone to post "Who are the bands then?"

I won't mention them cause everytime they are mentioned it causes arguments on here from the jealous crew.

Let the music do the talking and get promoting. Simple.

ah but that jealousy is good for the band, people with anything upstairs know the snidey ones are worthless. Surely no one is dim enough to aggressively respond to the flavour of this thread?

Yes it is Karen (Jinja).
Glad to hear that there are some bands breaking out of Brum. There are so many talented bands around at the mo, and its great PR for Brum if more bands are getting signed as that means you can certainly expect A&R to make the trip over to the Midlands in search of more talent (lets bring London to Birmingham!).
PS Bar Fly promoter the line ups looking good so far, can't wait to see the rest of the year.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Brum Music Scene - what's going on?

Sorry Mr Barfly Promoter, I cannot agree, as there are plenty of A&R prepared to come up here if a band is good enough, it's just taht there are only about 5 or 6 bands in this city that would be considered, and I reckon only one of them is ready (and no it's not my band!).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Brum Music Scene - what's going on?

i presume the ******** has been about the editors, which is maybe fair enough, i saw their first show as Snowfield and even then they were obviously making music to get signed, but it's hypocritical of most birmingham bands to have a go at them for making music just to get a&r guys wet, as a lot of bands round these parts are doing the same thing

bands are very serious about getting record deals, very serious about getting press coverage and only fairly serious about making great music. which if you think about it makes no sense right now, even for the career minded musician, as there are so many bands getting signed, it can only mean there's gonna be -> market saturation -> a backlash and huge droppage from record labels sometime soon. so anyone who really cared about their bands would just be sisters doing it for themselves right now, writing good songs, playing good shows.

also for those hype mongers among you, i hear Distophia are supporting Hard-Fi on their sold out autumn tour, it'd be good to see them get some more attention
